After a year of preparing for this moment we have finally arrived in Barcelona! We have been here for 2 weeks now and it has been filled with so much joy and peace, but also mourning the people and things we have left. The Psalms have been a real encouragement during this time.
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
To help get started on the right foot we took the first week as a time to turn off all communication and distractions like computers and screens to focus on listening to the Lord and fasting. During this time we walked through each neighborhood of this city and prayed for God’s Kingdom to come to Barcelona. Seeing so much brokenness all around us we prayed for God to heal and restore as we know only He can do. This included a lot of walking, learning the subway, and eating good food! We are so blessed to be in a city full of excitement and tapas.
We have already connected with two groups of people who are already laboring to see the Gospel spread throughout Barcelona. The first is a family that has recently spent a few years Austin, the two brothers have been involved with street evangelism, and the parents are associated with the Baptist church network of Spain. After spending some time with them they also connected us with a group of people just outside of Barcelona who are working on discipleship and equipping others with tools to replicate. They invited us out to meet everyone during a large gathering they had where we worshiped and shared stories.
Praise God He is already moving here. We have met a lot of people who were receptive to prayer. As a team we have gotten to share the Gospel with people who we have met as we are going (i.e playing soccer, our waiters, and people in coffee shops!). We are excited to see what God is going to do!
- More opportunities to care for and share with those around us. We want to share as we go and to welcome people into our homes to show through our actions the love of Christ.
- Finding a long term apartment. We have been praying for an apartment in an area the Lord has for us. Last week we found a place with space for hosting and in the neighborhood where a majority of the immigrant population live. We are so thankful to God for this house and are hoping to sign a lease soon!
- Emily will be staring Spanish classes next month, prayer for God to use her at the school to share the Gospel and to learn the language quickly!
